Cut and Paste 2

If you haven't already read Cut and Paste, I suggest you do so before continuing with this post. This here is a sequal, and it's not as good if you read it out of order.

[21:09] <TheCovarr> eifer, I suggest you read the conversation that Lhurgoyf and I had a while ago
[21:09] <TheCovarr> If you haven't already
[21:09] <eifer> lol ok
[21:11] <eifer> same number of letters but the spacing is slightly different
[21:12] <TheCovarr> Look at CLICHE and CHICLET
[21:12] <TheCovarr> Same letters, but rearranged, and it makes the word longer
[21:12] <TheCovarr> Totally makes sense
[21:12] <TheCovarr> Yet Lhurgoyf ignores the examples and calls me an idiot and kicks me
[21:12] <eifer> umm
[21:12] <eifer> those aren't the same letters
[21:12] <TheCovarr> Yes they are
[21:12] <eifer> find me the T in cliche
[21:12] <TheCovarr> umm
[21:13] <TheCovarr> oh
[21:13] <TheCovarr> You're right
[21:13] <eifer> newb :-p
[21:13] <TheCovarr> But what about SOCCER and CROSSES?
[21:13] <eifer> the computer just spaces the letters slightly different
[21:13] <TheCovarr> I'm using a fixed-width font
[21:13] <eifer> SOCCER
[21:13] <eifer> CROSSES
[21:13] <eifer> the computer spaces them differently
[21:13] <TheCovarr> all the letters are the same size, it's just the word has more letters when you rearrange them
[21:14] <eifer> then it's not the same
[21:14] <eifer> crosses has one more letter
[21:14] <eifer> it's not rearanged
[21:14] <TheCovarr> SOCCER has 6 letters, CROSSES has 7 letters, but they have the same letters just rearranged
[21:14] <eifer> no
[21:14] <eifer> same letters, but more of them, and rearranged
[21:15] <TheCovarr> I know that there's more of them
[21:15] <TheCovarr> But I didn't add any
[21:15] <eifer> sure you did
[21:15] <TheCovarr> The only reason there's more is because I rearranged them
[21:15] <eifer> you pressed the button more
[21:15] <TheCovarr> No I didn't
[21:15] <TheCovarr> I just moved the letters around, and that made more of them
[21:15] <eifer> what the fuck are you talking about lol
[21:15] <TheCovarr> You're having trouble understanding how this works
[21:15] <eifer> how many times do you press S for soccer
[21:15] <TheCovarr> once
[21:15] <eifer> and how many times do you press S for crosses
[21:16] <TheCovarr> once
[21:16] <TheCovarr> But since I rearranged it, there's more
[21:16] <eifer> wtf are you tlaking about
[21:17] <eifer> ok let's look at it this way
[21:17] <eifer> let's say I have a desk, a chair, and a bed in my room
[21:17] <eifer> and then I rearrange my room
[21:17] <eifer> I'm not gonna all of a sudden have 2 chairs a bed and a desk
[21:17] <TheCovarr> It works like this picture
[21:17] <TheCovarr> http://mightyillusions.blogspot.com/2006/03/impossible-triangle-illusion-no2.html
[21:17] <TheCovarr> Of course you won't get an extra chair, because that's furniture, not writing
[21:18] <eifer> this makes no sense
[21:18] <eifer> and I don't see any reason to try to make sense out of it
[21:21] <TheCovarr> It makes perfect sense
[21:22] <eifer> you're adding more letters
[21:22] <eifer> you can't make the word soccer from crosses
[21:22] <TheCovarr> I'm not adding more letters
[21:22] <eifer> yes you are
[21:22] <TheCovarr> The reason there's more is because I rearranged them
[21:23] <TheCovarr> Just like that picture I linked to, if you rearrange stuff there can be more.
[21:23] <eifer> ok this is rearranging
[21:23] <eifer> live -> evil
[21:23] <TheCovarr> Yes
[21:23] <TheCovarr> That is an example of rearranging where it doesn't make more letters
[21:23] <eifer> soccer -> crosses is not rearranging
[21:24] <TheCovarr> Yes it is
[21:24] <eifer> no, it's adding and subtracting from the same set of letters
[21:24] <eifer> s o c e r are used in both
[21:24] <eifer> but the amount is different
[21:24] <TheCovarr> I know the amount is different
[21:24] <eifer> if you have 3 oranges and 2 apples
[21:24] <TheCovarr> Because I rearranged them
[21:24] <eifer> and then you have 5 oranges and 1 apple
[21:24] <eifer> did you just rearrange?
[21:25] <TheCovarr> Maybe
[21:25] <TheCovarr> It depends on if it's the same oranges and apple
[21:25] <eifer> do you know what rearrange means?
[21:26] <TheCovarr> Yes
[21:26] <TheCovarr> It's when you have some
[21:26] <TheCovarr> ANd you move them around
[21:26] <TheCovarr> And put them in different places
[21:26] <eifer> put into a new order or arrangement; "Please rearrange these files"; "rearrange the furniture in my room"
[21:26] <TheCovarr> Exactly
[21:26] <eifer> yeah
[21:26] <TheCovarr> But because of the order you put them in, there's more
[21:26] <eifer> no
[21:27] <eifer> that's called adding more
[21:27] <eifer> where are you getting this idea from?
[21:27] <eifer> it's beyond stupid
[21:28] <TheCovarr> DId you actually look at that triangle picture?
[21:28] <TheCovarr> Look at the pic and you'll understand
[21:29] <eifer> taht's a mathematic thing
[21:29] <eifer> this is not a mathematic thing
[21:29] <eifer> I know the triangle picture
[21:30] <TheCovarr> And it's the same triangle
[21:30] <TheCovarr> But when you rearrange it, it's smaller
[21:31] <eifer> that has no correlation to what you're trying to say with these letters
[21:31] <TheCovarr> Yes it does
[21:31] <TheCovarr> What I'm trying to say is that there can be more of stuff if you rearrange it
[21:31] <TheCovarr> You rearrange the pieces in the triangle and suddenly there's one more square
[21:32] <TheCovarr> You rearrange the letters in the word and suddenly there is one more square
[21:32] <eifer> those aren't the same size pieces
[21:32] <eifer> read the explanation
[21:32] <eifer> there's a slight curve in the diagonal line
[21:32] <eifer> you can see it if you hold paper up to it
[21:32] <eifer> there can't be more stuff if you rearrange it, end of story
[21:32] <eifer> case closed
