Attention StumbleUpon Users
Understanding of this post requires at least a basic understanding of what StumbleUpon is. If you don't know, then you should check it out because it really is awesome, and this post won't make a hint of sense to you otherwise. In case you got confused, here is another link to StumbleUpon's website.
Have you, by any chance seen the Minesweeper: The Movie video floating around? I have. If I click the "stumble" button a few times, chances are pretty good that I'll see it again. And again. And again. The problem can be explained by a simple multi-step process:
1. Person sees the original video at CollegeHumor.
2. Person clicks the "I like it!" button on StumbleUpon Toolbar.
3. Hundreds of other people click their stumble button and are led to this video.
4. They all click the "I like it!" button.
5. Many of them repost the video to their own blogs.
6. People see these blog posts, enjoy the video, and click "I like it!"
Result: Not only do I land on the original video when I stumble, but I land on every blog that reposts it. This wastes my time every time I have to wait for a page to load only to find out that it's something I've already seen. This wastes my bandwidth, because it plays automatically when it loads, and re-buffers EVERY SINGLE TIME.
If you have StumbleUpon Toolbar installed and come across this video, look at the address bar on your browser. If it says anything other than "http://www.collegehumor.com/video:1770138", then give it a THUMB DOWN. If the address has the word "youtube" in it, give it a THUMB DOWN. If the address has the word "blogger" in it, give it a THUMB DOWN. If the address has the word "wordpress" in it, give it a THUMB DOWN. If you don't understand how to tell the difference between the original source and a repost, give it a THUMB DOWN just to be safe. Feel free to hit "I like it!" if know for sure that you're on the page where the video originated, but for crying out loud, stop giving good ratings to duplicates. DO NOT BE PART OF THE PROBLEM. IF I GET STUMBLED TO THIS VIDEO ONE MORE TIME, HOPE THAT YOU ARE NOT WITHIN A FIVE MILE RADIUS OF ME.
Thank you.
PS. If this has been bothering you as well, feel free to give MY post right here a thumb up, just so that more people get the message.
Update: happyjez said: "But to say only post things from collegehumor would eliminate the idea behind stumble."
My response: I wasn't saying to only post things from collegehumor, I was saying only to thumb up this particular video from collegehumor, as it was there first. The point is to give a thumb up to the place where it originated; if something originates on youtube, feel free to give it a thumb up there.

I "thumbs up"'d every Minesweeper vid and blog, that's what you wanted right???????!
Ooooh, troll attack. Watch out Covarr, some thirteen year old might be responsible for you having to watch a video a couple of extra times! Oh, the misery.
I seriously have stumbled on it like, 5 times today. Thanks for the help.
oh gnoes the url has blog in it! thumbs down!!1`
Are you suggesting that StumbleUpon replace "I Like It" with a button saying something like, "I like it, it's the original and I've checked that it's not a repost."
Or better still, how about you just press the Stumble! button again?
Sorry, but your answer to this annoyance is unrealistic. How do you tell if it is the original posting? Just because it's the first time you've seen the vid does not mean it's the original. Even if it says "original" it may not be. The only foreseeable answer to this problem would be SU using some kind of program that can recognize video by its content, which is close to possible, or a hell of a lot of people doing it for them. To thumb it down because you've seen it before, however, is ignorant if you actually like the content. Someone said "how 'bout you just hit stumble" and I agree. They go away in time; I haven't seen the minesweeper one in a while. Perhaps I'll google it and thumb it up. Kidding.
@Everyone else who says thumbing down duplicate content is ignorant.
StumbleUpon has a specific thumbs down button for duplicate content because this is annoying. This prevents this bullcrap from happening, and I've been using it a lot when I noticed it could be used for that specific purpose. Whether you like it or not, if it's duplicate content, thumb it down. If you wanna be stubborn, just don't thumb it up at the very least.
Thumb down.
I'm sorry if I don't search out the original material every time I like something I find on the internet. Redundancy is here to stay. Quit whining, cry baby.
Thumbs down whinger, i hope nobody else lands on this waste of time
Your wish is my command.
Thumbs down.
