How to piss people off - Part 1: Bandwidth

Final Fantasy VII: Voices of the Lifestream

An entirely free album. Four CDs of remixes of music from Final Fantasy VII. Easily some of the best music I've heard in a long time. Why, then, is this a problem? I can answer that in three letters:

WAV

The full album is only available as a torrent which includes both MP3s and the ridiculously large WAV files. While it's true that WAV offers audio quality that MP3 doesn't dare dream of, it also offers filesizes that dialup users dread. What this means is that if anybody wants to download the entire album, their choices are either to waste nearly 2GB of bandwidth on WAV files (as well as the time required to download that much), to fiddle around with various torrent software until they find a way to only download a single folder from a torrent, or to download the album track-by-track.

Nice going, assholes.

Aside from this, I highly recommend this album to anybody who likes music. It really is that good.
